How it works

Time for a ground-distance leg

Calculate travel time using horizontal ground distance and positive ground speed. Airspeed must first be combined with wind; still-air airspeed is not automatically ground speed.

Time = distance / ground speed. Unit definitions: 1 NM = 1852 m; 1 mile = 1609.344 m.

Route legs and additional time

Sum actual planned legs with different ground speeds and explicitly entered additional time. Do not use an arithmetic average of leg speeds. The additional-time column may include planned circling, climb or delays; keep its meaning with each label.

Total moving time = Σ distance/ground speed; total elapsed time = moving time + Σ additional time.
