Leveling Clip & Wedge Calculator

Count reviewed shared-edge clip positions and separately plan reusable wedges from peak occupancy, inventory and actual package sizes.

Use this result well

Inputs that matter
Reviewed grid and per-edge placement, additional positions, peak wedge occupancy, separate replacements, usable stock and actual packages
Output to expect
Independent clip and wedge purchase quantities, package counts and package remainders with the reviewed source
How it works
Counts each shared edge once, uses the declared one-wedge-per-clip peak sequence for reuse, then deducts stock and rounds each package separately
  • Verify exact system compatibility, placement and permitted removal before planning reuse; no tile-size rule or automatic allowance is selected.
  • This count does not determine joint width, substrate suitability, removal time or acceptable lippage and excludes screw-cap/intersection systems.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Count reviewed shared-edge positions once and separately procure single-use clips and reusable wedges using peak occupancy, explicit allowances, usable stock and real packages.

Rectangular-floor installer

Avoid counting shared edges twice.

Enter reviewed rows/columns and positions per edge in each direction, add explicit extra positions.

A sourced takeoff replaces automatic clips per tile and lippage-free promises.

Crew reusing wedges

Plan the maximum simultaneously occupied positions.

Enter the permitted removal sequence peak, replacement wedges and usable stock.

Wedge purchase follows peak occupancy rather than all consumed clips.

Procurement reviewer

Order the correct independent packages.

Enter clip/wedge packaging and inventory, inspect remainders and download/save the record.

Package rounding is visible and no automatic ten-percent allowance or 500-piece pack is added.

Authoritative checks for this tool

Outputs and checklists are planning aids. Review the linked current authorities and the records, terms, instructions, and requirements that apply to your exact situation before a consequential decision.

How it works

Count shared edges once

Use a reviewed rectangular grid and explicit positions per edge. Add only separately reviewed positions outside this count; the tool does not choose manufacturer spacing.

Grid clips = rows × (columns − 1) × clips per across edge + (rows − 1) × columns × clips per down edge

Separate consumption from reuse

Peak occupancy comes from the setting sequence before permitted removal. Reusable wedges are not automatically ordered one-for-one with all job clips.

Clip need = max(0, planned positions + replacement clips − usable clips); wedge need = max(0, peak occupancy + replacement wedges − usable wedges)

Round actual packages independently

Clip and wedge package sizes can differ. Show the package remainder separately from the user-entered replacement allowance.

Packages = ceil(individual purchase need ÷ actual package quantity)

Example Scenarios

An illustrative 8 × 10 grid with two clips per shared edge in each direction has 72 + 70 shared edges and 284 planned clips, not eight clips per tile.

For peak occupancy 100, five replacement wedges and 40 usable wedges on hand, purchase need is 65. Packages of 50 mean two packages and 35 remaining pieces.

For 284 planned clips, ten replacements and 20 on hand, purchase need is 274. Packages of 100 mean three packages and 26 remaining clips. These counts are illustrative, not placement advice.

FAQ

Use the exact system instructions and reviewed tile/slab layout. The calculator does not infer spacing from nominal tile size.

The maximum clip positions holding wedges at the same time before earlier wedges may be removed under the product instructions. It must be positive for a nonempty plan and cannot exceed planned positions.

No. The arithmetic is scoped to a declared one-wedge-per-clip shared-edge system. Different components and intersection methods need their own takeoff.

No. Substrate, tile, adhesive, placement, system suitability and installation checks require separate review. This is a procurement count, not installation approval.

Download complete installation record exports source-bearing JSON with raw counts, calculations and scope. Explicit Project Save retains independent clip and wedge fields without replacing tile, cut or spacer records.

About Leveling Clip & Wedge Calculator

Build a sourced procurement record for a declared one-wedge-per-clip system. Clip consumption and simultaneous wedge occupancy are separate quantities. This calculator does not guarantee lippage-free installation.
