How it works

Convert temperature units

Convert an absolute temperature with °F = °C × 1.8 + 32. Celsius values shown beside gas settings are calculated from their Fahrenheit anchors, so they can differ from rounded culinary charts.

Use named gas settings

AEG lists quarter and half marks separately, followed by whole marks 1–10. This tool uses its Fahrenheit anchors, including 520°F at mark 10. Values between entries are bracketed; no new dial position is invented.

Compare a thermometer with the dial

Convert both readings to the same scale and subtract set temperature from measured temperature. For a temperature difference, multiply Celsius degrees by 1.8 without adding 32.

Record the limits of one observation

A single difference depends on the thermometer, oven position, cycling and mode. Follow the appliance instructions for repeat measurements and calibration. The calculator does not apply a universal fan reduction or select a hardware adjustment.

Example Scenarios

Look up Gas Mark ¼ as 225°F and calculate its Celsius equivalent.

Convert 180°C to 356°F and see that it lies between the listed marks 4 and 5.

Compare a 180°C setting with a 374°F reading and save the observed 10°C / 18°F difference.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Using one linear equation for every gas mark

Look up the named entries, especially ¼, ½ and the upper end of the selected table.

Adding 32 to a temperature difference

Offsets are intervals: 10°C of difference equals 18°F of difference.

Treating a converted value as an exact oven or fan setting

Check the recipe and appliance. A nominal setting and an observed thermometer reading are different quantities.

FAQ

Choose Gas Mark and enter 0.25 or 0.5. The AEG Fahrenheit anchors are 225°F and 250°F respectively.

Recipe charts often round temperatures. This tool calculates Celsius from the selected Fahrenheit table anchor instead of mixing rounded values from different charts.

Only listed settings are accepted. For a temperature between table entries, enter °C or °F to see the two surrounding named settings.
