Workflow

  1. Review Approved Brew Plan

    1-2 hours

    Confirm the owner-approved recipe record and reconcile one retained separate mash-and-sparge water plan before brew day.

  2. Monitor Fermentation

    1-3 weeks

    Track fermentation progress, measure final gravity, and calculate actual ABV and attenuation.

  3. Review the Source-Owned Packaging Addition Record

    30 minutes

    Reconcile one retained package-conditioning mass plan only after responsible owners approve the batch, product, fermentation, package rating, and exposure-condition evidence.

  4. Evaluate and Refine

    2-4 weeks conditioning

    Calculate final ABV, assess mash efficiency for next batch, and adjust grain bill or process accordingly.

  • Star San Is Your Best Friend

    No-rinse sanitizer (Star San, Iodophor) on everything post-boil. Contact time of 30 seconds is sufficient.

  • Control Fermentation Temperature

    A swamp cooler (water bath + frozen bottles) costs $0 and improves beer quality more than any ingredient upgrade.

  • Avoid Oxidation After Fermentation

    Splashing beer during transfer introduces oxygen and causes cardboard off-flavors. Transfer gently with a siphon.

  • Start with Extract Kits

    Master sanitation and fermentation before all-grain brewing. Extract kits produce excellent beer with less equipment.

Safety Notes

  • Never pressurize glass bottles beyond their rating — over-priming causes bottle bombs. Use a priming calculator and measure sugar precisely.
  • Propane burners require ventilation — brew outdoors or in well-ventilated areas to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
