Set Up a CO₂ Keg System

Workflow

  1. Identify the System and Its Limits

    As required

    List the keg, couplers or disconnects, regulator, gas supply, lines and faucet. Find the instructions and pressure ratings for those exact components. Confirm a CO₂-only system and a compatible regulator before using this workflow. Ask the supplier to resolve missing ratings, damaged parts or incompatible fittings.

  2. Prepare Clean Equipment and a Suitable Location

    As required

    Secure the gas cylinder upright in a ventilated location. With equipment depressurized as its instructions require, clean the beer-contact path and apply the specified sanitation procedure. Record the products and required rinse steps. Do not infer a cleaner concentration or contact time from this guide.

  3. Measure Beer Temperature and Plan Equilibrium

    As required

    Measure the stable beer temperature and obtain the recipe or brewer’s carbonation target. Open the carbonation tool and select Keg Equilibrium Pressure. Enter the temperature and target, then record the sea-level gauge-pressure estimate. Check its CO₂-only and altitude limitations against the system before selecting an operating setting.

  4. Connect and Check for Leaks

    As required

    Follow the component manuals for connection, pressure application and leak testing. Check the documented operating setting against every affected component rating and keep the pressure-relief function intact. If a connection leaks or the pressure behaves unexpectedly, stop and use the supplier’s isolation and service procedure before continuing.

  5. Hold Conditions Steady and Evaluate the Pour

    As required

    Keep the measured beer temperature and verified CO₂ setting stable while carbonation approaches equilibrium. Record the observation time and pour behavior rather than assuming a fixed completion deadline. For excess foam, review beer and faucet temperatures, line condition and system balance before changing the carbonation target.

  6. Save the Setup and Maintenance Record

    As required

    Save the batch identifier, temperature with units, target CO₂, selected mode, calculated estimate and actual operating setting. Add the equipment configuration, leak-check outcome, pour observations and cleaning date. Recheck the setup when the beer, gas, lines or temperature changes; use the record as a starting point, not a universal preset.
