Workflow

  1. Verify the test and the receiving institutions’ policies

Use your actual records and review schedule

Check whether the intended programs require or accept scores, which tests and sections they use, and their current submission deadlines. Confirm the actual SAT or ACT administration, format, available accommodations and registration terms. For the enhanced ACT, science selection in state or district testing is determined at the contract level; institutional science requirements can differ.

  2. Establish a representative starting point

Use your actual records and review schedule

Use a current official practice test in the relevant format and record the conditions, breaks, access supports and interruptions. Review the report by skill and task type. Distinguish unfamiliar content, interpretation errors, pacing and careless responses before choosing what to practice.

  3. Make a task-based preparation schedule

Use your actual records and review schedule

Select a manageable block of specific skills, practice sets and review work. Estimate minutes from the initial practice and fit the work into real available sessions. Include breaks outside the focused minutes and leave your own allowance for review. Adjust the target date or scope if the plan exceeds availability.

  4. Practice, explain errors and obtain focused help

Use your actual records and review schedule

Work on the selected tasks, explain why errors occurred and redo suitable problems after review. Keep dated examples of corrections and questions. If instruction would help, ask a tutor how lessons address the identified gaps and verify session length, actual charges and cancellation terms.

  5. Rehearse the real test process

Use your actual records and review schedule

Confirm device or paper arrangements, approved assistive technology, identification, calculator policy, travel and arrival instructions with the testing body. Use a representative full practice session when useful and review remaining uncertainties. Complete registration and accommodation steps through the official system and retain confirmations.

  6. Review the result and decide the next action

Use your actual records and review schedule

Read the official score report and receiving institutions’ current reporting policies. Compare retesting, further targeted practice or submitting an existing result against actual deadlines, fees and other priorities. Retain the decision and any score-send confirmation. Continue learning even when no further admissions test is needed.
