How it works
Updated September 2026Average pace
Elapsed seconds = 60 × whole minutes + remaining seconds. Divide elapsed seconds by distance, then multiply by 100. Average speed per hour = distance × 3600 ÷ elapsed seconds.
Units and rounding
The unit labels the entered distance; changing meters to yards does not convert the number. Clock outputs round to milliseconds with carry into minutes. A positive pace below one millisecond is shown with a less-than sign instead of zero.
Input scope
Distance must be positive and at most 1,000,000. Minutes must be a whole number from 0 to 1,000,000; remaining seconds range from 0 to 59.999. Distance and seconds accept up to three decimals. These are software limits, not recommended swimming distances or durations.

Example Scenarios
Use the completed distance and matching elapsed time to find average pace.
Calculate separate intervals using consistent units and treatment of rest time; the average does not show within-interval variation.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Changing units without changing the distance number
Enter the actual distance in the selected unit; the selector does not convert it.
Entering total seconds in the remaining-seconds field
Split the clock into whole minutes and remaining seconds below 60.
Treating a calculated average as a guaranteed future pace
Conditions, technique and timing methods differ. This tool calculates entered values and does not assess fitness or open water readiness.
