How it works

Define the BPM reference beat

BPM counts a stated reference pulse. Entering the reference note prevents the calculator from silently assuming quarter-note BPM in every meter.

Scale by quarter-note units

Each selected note is represented as quarter-note units, including exact straight, dotted, and triplet fractions, then scaled against the entered reference note.

Selected note ms = reference beat ms × selected quarter units / reference-note quarter units

Keep measure count explicit

A whole number of reference beats produces a nominal measure duration without inventing a /4 denominator. Meter changes, swing, groove and tempo automation stay in the session record.
