Discount Calculator

Calculate percentage, fixed, sale-price, and Buy-X-Get-Y discounts with whole-item bundle rules, sequential coupons, tax, quantity, and unit-price comparisons.

Use this result well

Inputs that matter
Original per-item price, discount mode/value, whole received quantity, optional sequential order-level discounts and tax rate; Buy-X-Get-Y also requires positive whole X and Y values
Output to expect
Pre-tax subtotal, total and percentage savings, effective received-unit price, paid/free item count, sequential adjustment trail, tax, and payable total
How it works
Strict order arithmetic; Buy-X-Get-Y awards free items only for complete X+Y bundles in the received quantity, then applies each additional percentage or fixed coupon to the current order subtotal
  • Confirm whether coupons apply per item or per order and whether stacking is allowed; this model treats additional fixed coupons as order-level.
  • Taxability, fees, exclusions, coupon order, and promotion limits vary by seller and jurisdiction; compare the checkout total.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Model a real checkout order across single-item, quantity, complete-bundle, sequential-coupon, tax, and pack-comparison decisions without inventing fractional free items.

Everyday sale shopper

Translate a headline offer into the amount actually paid and saved.

Choose percentage, fixed, or sale-price mode; enter price and quantity; then inspect subtotal, savings, unit price, and tax.

Can reproduce the order math and compare it with checkout rather than relying on the headline percentage.

Bundle-promotion buyer

Know how many items are paid and free when quantity does not divide evenly into bundles.

Choose Buy-X-Get-Y, enter positive whole X/Y values and received quantity, then inspect paid/free fulfillment.

Understands that Buy 2 Get 1 across seven received items means five paid and two free, with no fractional award.

Coupon-stacking comparer

Apply multiple coupons in the seller-relevant order and see tax separately.

Add sequential percentage or fixed order-level adjustments, enter tax, and audit each displayed step.

Does not add percentage discounts arithmetically or mistake the pre-tax subtotal for the payable total.

How it works

Discount Amount

The discount amount is the portion of the original price removed by the sale percentage.

Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount % ÷ 100)

Final Sale Price

The sale price is what you pay after the discount is applied. Alternatively, multiply the original price by the remaining percentage.

Sale Price = Original Price − Discount Amount = Original Price × (1 − Discount % ÷ 100)

Complete Bundle Promotions

Buy-X-Get-Y awards free items only for complete X+Y bundles within the received quantity. Additional percentage or fixed coupons are applied sequentially to the current order subtotal.

Paid items = full bundles × X + min(remainder, X)

Example Scenarios

A shopper finds wireless headphones marked down 40% from $89 during a holiday sale.

Original Price: $89Discount: 40%

Sale price: $53.40, savings: $35.60

An item at $120 with an additional 15% coupon applied at checkout — calculate the combined effective discount.

Original Price: $120First Discount: 20%Second Discount: 15%

Final price: $81.60 (32% total off, not 35%)

Seven received items contain two complete three-item bundles, so five items are paid and two are free; the remaining item does not create a fractional free item.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Adding multiple percentage discounts together

Stacked discounts are multiplicative, not additive. 20% off plus 15% off equals 32% total off, not 35%. Apply each discount sequentially to the current price.

Confusing discount off with price remaining

A 25% discount means you pay 75% of the original price, not 25%. Double-check whether the percentage refers to the amount saved or the amount you pay.

FAQ

The arithmetic is exact for the inputs and ordering shown. Real checkout totals can differ when a seller limits stacking, taxes discounts differently, excludes items, or adds fees, so compare the modeled payable total with checkout.

Yes. The inputs, paid/free-item result, coupon sequence, tax total, and bulk comparison adapt to phone, tablet, and desktop layouts.

It supports percentage off, fixed amount off, a given sale price, Buy-X-Get-Y with complete bundles, sequential percentage or fixed coupons, quantity, tax, and two-pack unit-price comparison.

Only complete X+Y bundles earn Y free items. For Buy 2 Get 1 with seven received items, five are paid and two are free; the seventh item does not earn a fractional free item.
