Range equals usable energy multiplied by vehicle efficiency (miles per kWh).
Range (mi) = Usable kWh × mi/kWhUsable Battery Capacity
Manufacturers reserve 5–10% of gross battery capacity as a buffer. State of charge further limits available energy.
Usable kWh = Capacity × Usable% × SOC%Weather and Driving Adjustments
Cold weather (battery heating, cabin heat) can reduce range 20–30%. Highway speeds above 70 mph and A/C use also lower efficiency.
