How it works

Normalized fuel calculation

Inputs are converted to miles, MPG, and dollars per U.S. gallon before fuel and cost are calculated.

Trip cost = distance miles ÷ MPG × price per gallon

Explicit projections and EV comparison

Monthly and yearly totals use the entered repeat counts. EV kWh equals trip miles divided by entered mi/kWh, then cost equals kWh times the entered rate.

Tailpipe emissions scope

Gasoline tailpipe CO₂ uses EPA's 8,887 g/gallon combustion factor. Upstream fuel and vehicle-lifecycle emissions are not included.

No. They are optional labels only. Enter route distance from a map, odometer, or itinerary; the calculator does not geocode, add detours, or infer traffic.

The current value is converted: miles ↔ kilometers, MPG ↔ L/100 km, and price per gallon ↔ price per liter. Switching the label alone cannot change the modeled trip.

The single-trip result is multiplied by the whole-number trips per month and trips per year that you enter. The tool does not silently assume commuting frequency.

It multiplies gallons burned by EPA's 8.887 kg CO₂ per gallon combustion factor. It is a tailpipe estimate and excludes production, refining, and distribution emissions.

No. It compares trip electricity cost using entered $/kWh and mi/kWh. Charging losses, demand or session fees, temperature, battery conditioning, purchase price, maintenance, and emissions are outside the comparison.
