How it works

Count bounded geometry

The centered reference balances the remaining edge positions and counts corners once. Review its edge sizes in Tile Layout Planner. Joint width is a reviewed input, not an installation recommendation.

Positions per axis = max(1, ceil((net field + joint) ÷ (actual tile + joint)))

Reconcile new source tiles

Each remaining cut position conservatively consumes one new source tile. For multiple pieces cut from one source tile, use the detailed cut record. Nonzero reuse credits clear after geometry, orientation or source changes.

Source tiles = selected full positions + cut positions − verified offcut positions

Round the purchase, not the drawing

Rotation compares position counts only; it does not transfer reuse assignments. Whole packages determine purchased pieces and cost. Diagrams above 400 positions are omitted without cropping or changing exact counts.

Example Scenarios

With actual 12×12 in tile and a 0.125 in interior joint, the centered grid has 10 columns × 12 rows = 120 positions: 80 full and 40 cut. No reuse, a chosen 10% allowance and 10 pieces/package give 14 packages and 140 purchased pieces.

Compare the same field with the actual width and length swapped. Check cut positions and edge dimensions separately; fewer positions is not proof of an approved or lower-waste layout.

For the illustrative 120-position field, 20 verified cut-position credits and zero additional allowance give 100 source tiles. Add 5 reserve, subtract 10 usable whole tiles and buy 12 packages of 8: 96 pieces for a 95-piece purchase need.

Enter measured actual face dimensions. A nominal product label, sheet-mounted mosaic or multi-size pattern needs its own verified geometry; none is substituted automatically.

One selected cut position already has a compatible measured offcut assigned. It is not a spare whole tile and cannot exceed the selected cut-position count. Changing the layout requires a fresh review.
