Tile Cut Position Record

Reconcile straight-edge, obstacle, and specialty cut positions from a measured layout with verified offcut reuse and source-tile yield.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Turn a dated measured layout into distinct cut-position counts and a traceable source-tile reconciliation without pattern multipliers.

DIY dry-layout reviewer

Know which positions actually need cuts before renting tools.

Count straight, obstacle and specialty positions on the marked layout, then enter verified offcut reuse and cut yield.

Sees documented positions and source-tile arithmetic without a room-dimension guess.

Installer checking reuse

Avoid double-counting offcuts or optimistic yield.

Assign measured offcuts to exact cut positions and compare one- versus two-piece source-tile yield.

Credits cannot exceed cuts and every changed assumption remains visible in the source record.

Project owner reviewing scope

Distinguish labor/tool complexity from tile consumption.

Inspect cut categories, descriptive cut share and the complete JSON/Project record.

Understands that the tool neither approves cutting methods nor produces a package order.

How it works

Position categories

Categories must come from the dated layout. Their total cannot exceed all planned tile positions.

Cut positions = straight edge + obstacle + specialty

Verified reuse and yield

Each credit supplies a specific position. Yield comes from the cut schedule or representative trial; no diagonal, brick or herringbone multiplier is used.

New source tiles for cuts = ceil((cut positions − assigned offcut credits) ÷ verified pieces per source tile)

Scope of the result

Consumed source tiles exclude explicit spares, inventory and package rounding. The descriptive cut share is not a purchasing allowance or labor/safety estimate.

Source tiles consumed = whole positions + new source tiles for cuts

Example Scenarios

Count straight wall-edge pieces, obstacle notches and specialty pattern pieces from a marked 120-position layout.

Assign four measured offcuts to exact positions and test a verified two-piece yield without treating every remainder as reusable.

Download the source-bearing cut record, then hand its exact outputs to Tile Project and the separate tile order reconciliation.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Assuming two perimeter cuts for every row/column and multiplying by pattern.

Count the actual marked cut positions and their types after dry layout.

Treating cut positions as whole source tiles or a package order.

Use verified yield/offcut reuse for source-tile consumption, then reconcile spares, inventory and packages separately.

FAQ

Dimensions alone miss centerline changes, actual joint width, obstacles, movement joints, pattern details and deliberate reuse. TCNA recommends careful dry layout to identify and avoid small cuts.

One installed tile location that receives a cut piece. A piece requiring multiple saw passes is still one position; labor and method complexity are outside this count.

Yes only when the exact cut schedule or representative trial verifies that yield. Enter one when each piece consumes its own source tile.

No. It only describes how many planned positions receive a cut piece. A cut piece may consume less than, equal to or more than one source tile depending on the verified schedule.

No. Blade, saw, dust/water controls, PPE, material handling and difficult-cut approval require the exact product/tool instructions and responsible planning.

About Tile Cut Position Record

Room dimensions and a pattern label do not identify actual cuts. Mark the layout, count each installed position that needs a straight, obstacle or specialty cut, then document specific offcut reuse and verified cut pieces per new source tile.
