Greens in Regulation Calculator

Reconcile 1–18 completed, source-classified GIR or MISS hole records. Reproduce count and percentage without inventing benchmarks, causes or advice.

Use this result well

Inputs that matter
One de-identified completed GIR record and basis; named completed hole-classification, exact definition/surface-basis and independent same-record summary sources; 1–18 GIR or MISS values; plus independent greens-hit count and percentage
Output to expect
Preserved provenance, included-hole count, reproduced greens hit/missed and GIR percentage, independent count/percentage, and signed count/percentage-point differences
How it works
Validate every completed GIR or MISS token, use the actual included-hole denominator, reproduce the descriptive percentage, then compare the same-record independent summary without prorating or importing a live benchmark
  • Confirm the named source already owns each hole classification and document its GIR stroke and putting-surface basis. Keep fringe-inclusive, temporary-green or otherwise different methods in separate records.
  • Use signed differences only for arithmetic review. Tour/handicap comparisons, trends, causes, practice priorities, equipment effects, score certification and competition outcomes require compatible richer evidence and the responsible workflow.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Reproduce GIR count and percentage for one completed, source-classified hole record and compare an independent same-record summary without inventing benchmarks, causes or decisions.

Golfer checking one completed stat copy

Catch a count or denominator mismatch without treating a live tour average as a personal target.

Name the exact completed classification source and definition basis, copy each GIR or MISS value, then compare the reproduced count and percentage with an independent same-record summary.

Sees holes, hits, misses, percentage and two signed differences while classification and performance conclusions remain outside the arithmetic.

Club volunteer reconciling a stat question

Keep fringe-inclusive, putting-surface-only and partial-round records from being silently mixed or prorated.

Run each compatible completed record separately, preserve the surface/method basis and save only a deliberate reconciliation.

Can identify an arithmetic mismatch and route disputed classifications or scoring questions to the responsible source and rules process.

Coach teaching source-aware performance records

Show why one percentage cannot diagnose practice needs, equipment effects or player ability.

Load the 18-hole exercise, trigger an invalid-token error, recover with a nine-hole subset and inspect the displayed denominator and boundaries.

Learners distinguish descriptive same-sample arithmetic from external benchmarking, trend analysis and causal coaching decisions.

How it works

Preserve the Completed Classification Basis

PGA TOUR defines its statistic using the GIR stroke at par minus two and a ball touching the putting surface. The Rules separately define when a ball is on the putting green. Copy classifications already owned by the named source; do not ask this arithmetic worksheet to reconstruct strokes or settle fringe, temporary-green, penalty or disputed cases.

One reconciliation = one completed hole record + one declared GIR definition/surface basis

Reproduce the Same-Sample Statistic

Validate every GIR or MISS token and use the actual 1–18 included-hole denominator. A completed subset is not prorated to 18, and unlike rounds, definitions or populations are not silently pooled.

GIR percentage = GIR classifications ÷ included completed holes × 100

Compare—Do Not Diagnose

Signed differences are arithmetic review flags for exactly the same completed record. PGA TOUR publishes Greens or Fringe in Regulation separately, and current tour values change with season and event. Zero agreement cannot establish representativeness, cause, practice priorities, equipment effects or scoring outcomes.

Differences = reproduced count/percentage − independent count/percentage

Example Scenarios

Validate one de-identified 9-GIR/9-MISS completed record, reproduce 50%, and compare an independent 9-of-18 summary without turning agreement into a player benchmark.

Enter nine source-classified holes, trigger an invalid-token error, restore the exact GIR/MISS sequence and explain why the actual nine-hole denominator—not an 18-hole proration—owns the percentage.

A reviewer discovers that one source includes fringe while another records only the putting surface. Keep the records separate, preserve each definition, and resolve classification before any trend or comparison analysis.

FAQ

It does not independently classify shots. Name the source definition and copy only already determined GIR or MISS values. PGA TOUR's published definition uses the GIR stroke at par minus two and a ball touching the putting surface; other tracking products or competitions may require their own documented workflow.

The Rules define when a ball is on the putting green, and PGA TOUR lists Greens or Fringe in Regulation as a separate statistic. A short off-green stroke or an app setting cannot be inferred from a total count, so the source basis must stay explicit.

Not inside this result. PGA TOUR's live average changes by season, tour, event and cutoff date, while your record may use another population and method. Make any external comparison separately with an explicit source, date, denominator and compatible definition.

No. This record lacks shot distance, lie, target, club, conditions, dispersion, scoring context and a causal design. Use richer evidence and qualified coaching or fitting review before making a practice or equipment decision.

Only that the copied hole classifications and the independent same-record summary agree after the displayed arithmetic. It does not certify the classifications, score, trend, player ability, equipment effect or competition result.

About Greens in Regulation Calculator

This worksheet performs one narrow, auditable task: validate 1–18 GIR or MISS classifications already determined by a named completed source, reproduce greens hit, greens missed and GIR percentage, and compare a separately prepared same-record summary. It does not classify shots, certify a score, infer skill, set a benchmark, diagnose practice or validate equipment.
