Compare two options over the same 1–50-year horizon using initial cost, level annual running costs, one future cost event per option and end-of-horizon residual values. Costs occur at year end; initial costs occur now. The chosen discount rate and costs must share a real or nominal basis.
Present cost = upfront + Σ annual cost/(1 + discount)^year + event cost/(1 + discount)^event year − residual/(1 + discount)^horizon.Material coverage and packs
