Use this result well

Inputs that matter
Plain text typed, pasted, or appended through supported browser voice input
Output to expect
Exact character, whitespace-delimited word, and line counts; local autosave status; print; and UTF-8 .txt download
How it works
The exact plain text is debounced into this browser’s localStorage and also flushed on pagehide/unmount; no server sync, markdown rendering, syntax highlighting, or reading-time estimate is implied
  • Local storage can be unavailable, full, cleared, partitioned, or limited to one browser/profile/device; use the visible saved status and download important notes.
  • Clearing requires confirmation and offers a 10-second undo, but the tool is a temporary scratchpad rather than a versioned or encrypted document system.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Capture temporary plain text with visible local-save status, exact counts, safe clear recovery, and an explicit downloadable backup.

Meeting note taker

Capture a short note quickly and recover it after a refresh.

Type or paste text, wait for Last saved, then return in the same browser.

The exact multiline note returns and the user understands this is browser-local rather than account sync.

Draft writer

Monitor exact plain-text size and take a portable backup.

Review character/whitespace-word/line counts and download UTF-8 .txt before leaving.

Gets literal text without invented reading time, Markdown rendering, or word-goal progress.

Accidental-clear recovery user

Avoid losing a scratch note from a destructive click.

Choose Clear, review the modal, confirm, then use the 10-second Undo when needed.

The note is restored; keyboard focus is contained in the dialog and Escape cancels it.

Reference & details

How it works

Local Storage

Uses browser localStorage for best-effort persistence in the current browser profile and reports a visible error when a normal save attempt fails.

Auto-Save

Debounces saves for 500 milliseconds and also attempts to flush the latest text on pagehide or unmount. Important notes still need a downloaded backup.

Plain-Text Counts and Recovery

Counts exact characters, whitespace-delimited words, and newline-delimited lines. Clearing requires confirmation and provides a 10-second undo window.

Example Scenarios

Jot down ideas, meeting notes, or to-do items without opening a separate application.

Keep a temporary plain-text code snippet and download it before clearing; no syntax highlighting or version history is applied.

Draft emails, messages, or short documents in a distraction-free environment before copying them elsewhere.

FAQ

The note is saved to this browser's local storage after a short typing pause and flushed when the page is hidden when the browser permits it. Check the saved status and download important work because storage can be cleared, blocked, full, partitioned, or unavailable.

No. This is a plain-text textarea: Markdown characters remain literal and there is no rich-text rendering or syntax highlighting.

The tool does not impose its own character limit, but browser storage quotas and memory vary. If saving fails, the workspace shows a warning; download a copy instead of relying on an assumed quota.

You can download the exact content as a UTF-8 .txt file or print it. The notepad does not currently include a dedicated copy button.

The note-saving feature uses this browser's local storage and does not provide account sync. Local storage is not encrypted document storage; anyone with access to the browser profile may be able to read it, so do not use the scratchpad for secrets.

About Notepad

A plain-text browser scratchpad with delayed local autosave, exact character/word/line counts, print, voice input where supported, and UTF-8 .txt download. It does not render Markdown or sync notes between devices.
