Reconcile two completed, de-identified arm-span and stature records with explicit protocols, units, quality-control context and an independent same-record difference.

Use this result well

Inputs that matter
One de-identified completed two-record scope and basis; exact arm-span and stature definitions/protocols; replicate, precision and quality-control context; Record A and Record B source, arm-span and stature values with source units; independent same-record signed arm-span difference and provenance
Output to expect
Preserved provenance, normalized arm-span and stature values, each record's arm-span-minus-stature subtraction, signed Record A-minus-B arm-span and stature differences, independent difference and computed-minus-independent reconciliation in centimetres
How it works
Validate each source field and unit, normalize international inches with the exact 2.54 centimetres-per-inch relationship, preserve signed subtraction and compare the independently prepared arm-span difference for the identical source records and protocol
  • Confirm both completed records use the definitions and protocol claimed, and preserve replicate handling, reported precision, positioning, equipment and available calibration/QC context. Similar labels or converted units do not prove measurement equivalence, traceability or fitness for purpose.
  • Use the signed results only for arithmetic review. They do not rank people, establish a norm or advantage, estimate striking or kicking range, recommend tactics, scout talent, select a sport or role, predict performance, interpret development or health, or replace a responsible protocol and qualified review.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Reconcile two de-identified completed arm-span and stature records with explicit definitions, units, replicate/precision context and an independent same-record signed difference without ranking people or making tactical, scouting, selection, performance, development or health claims.

Research coordinator reconciling mixed-unit rows

Reproduce one completed two-row anthropometry comparison without losing protocol, replicate or source-unit context.

Preserve the arm-span and stature definitions, measurement/QC notes, both de-identified source rows and one independent signed subtraction.

Receives exact cm/in arithmetic and a same-record reconciliation while collection quality and analysis remain with the study protocol.

Statistician checking a published table extraction

Verify two extracted arm-span and stature rows without treating reported precision or a generic reach label as measurement equivalence.

Record the publication/table sources, exact definitions, source units, rounding context and independently prepared A-minus-B result.

Can identify transcription or arithmetic disagreement without a population, performance, traceability or fitness-for-purpose conclusion.

Adult reviewing a de-identified historical worksheet

Understand two completed measurement records without receiving tactical, talent-selection, development, medical or sport advice.

Use non-identifying record labels, preserve what is known about protocol and quality control, and compare only the entered signed differences.

Can reproduce the arithmetic while identity, ranking, sport choice, tactics, performance, development, health and safety remain outside the result.

How it works

Definition and Protocol Ownership

PhenX defines arm span as the maximum distance between extended middle fingers measured across the back and standing height as vertical head-to-heel stature under its stated posture. Preserve the exact protocol used for each completed record; a generic reach label or self-report is not silently interchangeable.

Comparable record = defined measurand + landmarks/posture + equipment/QC + replicate/precision rule + source value/unit

Exact Length Normalization

NIST states that one international inch is exactly 25.4 millimetres. Conversion preserves the entered quantity and source unit; it does not add precision, validate positioning or equipment, establish uncertainty or make a measurement traceable or fit for purpose.

Inches × 2.54 = centimetres

Signed Same-Record Reconciliation

Negative, zero and positive values show arithmetic direction only. Each record's arm-span-minus-stature value and the A-minus-B stature value are supporting subtractions, not norms, thresholds, advantages or explanations of performance.

A-minus-B arm span = normalized arm span A − normalized arm span B; reconciliation = computed difference − independent difference

Example Scenarios

A coordinator compares one completed 74-inch arm-span row with one 180-centimetre row, preserving the protocol and replicate/precision notes. The worksheet identifies any arithmetic mismatch without validating collection quality or interpreting the people measured.

A reviewer records the publication table, arm-span and stature definitions, source units and rounding context for two de-identified rows. The result checks subtraction against an independent worksheet while population inference stays outside this tool.

An adult copies two historical measurement records without names, documents that posture and calibration were not independently verified, and reviews the arithmetic only. The result gives no tactical, scouting, selection, development, health or performance advice.

FAQ

No. Positive means only that the normalized Record A arm-span value is numerically larger than Record B for the definitions and sources entered. The worksheet does not establish striking range, tactics, role suitability, performance or competitive advantage.

No. A database or organization may define and collect its field differently. PhenX Protocol 20101 defines arm span specifically as the maximum middle-finger-to-middle-finger distance across the back. Record the exact source definition instead of assuming labels are interchangeable.

It is a signed subtraction of two completed values after unit normalization. This worksheet does not classify the value as normal, notable, healthy, advantageous or diagnostic and does not compare it with a population reference.

PhenX recommends recorded units, calibrated equipment and replicate measurements where appropriate, and NHANES identifies positioning, landmarks, reading and recording as common error sources. The worksheet preserves available context but cannot validate it.

No. The 2.54 cm/in relationship is exact, but NIST explains that traceability belongs to a measurement result and requires a documented measurement system, reference chain and associated uncertainty. Unit conversion alone cannot supply those records.

About Reach Advantage Calculator

Arm span, standing height and sport-database reach labels can use different definitions, landmarks, postures, equipment and precision. This worksheet preserves the source records and compares only exact unit conversions and signed differences. It does not validate a measurement or traceability claim, rank people, estimate striking or kicking range, recommend tactics, scout talent, select a sport or role, predict performance, interpret development or health, or replace a responsible measurement protocol or qualified review.
