Interview Podcast: Brief, Recording and Review

Prepare focused interview questions, test guest audio, capture a traceable conversation and review the final edit and transcript before release.

Workflow

  1. Define the listener question and guest brief

Choose the question the episode should answer and prepare open prompts grounded in the guest’s relevant work. Share the format, topics, recording method, intended use and any agreed review boundaries. Record pronunciations and sensitive areas the guest has asked to handle carefully.

  2. Rehearse the guest’s actual recording path

Test the microphone, headphones, room and software the guest will use. Confirm permission prompts, track separation and the service’s current export and backup behavior in the actual account. Compare a short recorded passage for noise, echo and plosives; do not rank platforms by an assumed universal quality order.

  3. Agree cues and record the conversation

Confirm recording permission and whether recording has actually started on each required source. Use a running order as a guide, leave room for useful follow-ups and mark technical interruptions for editing. Record planned segments in the runtime tool while retaining the real conversation length as a separate observation.

  4. Recover and verify every source track

Keep participants available until required local files and uploads are complete. Open the recovered tracks, compare starts, ends, duration and sync, and retain any call backup. Record missing or damaged sections promptly so a pickup can address a specific gap.

  5. Edit for accuracy and prepare reviewed text

Build the episode without changing the speaker’s intended meaning, and check factual names or references against the conversation and supporting notes. Follow the review agreement made at the briefing stage. Count actual reviewed transcript text if needed; price transcription with explicit billed minutes rather than treating an estimate as text.

  6. Approve the release package and archive

Listen to the final encode and check guest name, title, links, credits, timestamps and transcript against that version. Confirm any agreed corrections and record the approved revision. Archive source tracks, permission/review notes and the final assets with a clear owner for later corrections.

  • Prepare follow-ups, not a script to enforce

Useful answers may need clarification rather than the next planned question.

  • Keep review expectations explicit

Agree the scope and timing early enough to support the actual release plan.
