Robot Battery Planning: Rails, Missions and Validation

Workflow

  1. Define the mission and operating envelope

    List mission states, duration, payload, terrain and required behavior at low battery. Record source voltage range, motor/control rails and the longest required task. Define the reserve policy separately from the usable energy measurement.

  2. Validate a controlled complete mission

    Run a supervised mission under a defined load and environment with appropriate stop criteria. Measure battery voltage, current, energy and temperature; observe reset, fault and low-battery behavior. Compare predicted and measured state durations and usable energy without intentionally exceeding pack limits.

  3. Retain pack condition and configuration history

    Export the mission budget, selected hardware, charger settings and measured validation results. Track discharge throughput on a fixed capacity basis and keep inspection or fault observations separately. Repeat validation after changes to payload, gearing, firmware, battery or charging configuration.

  • Keep peak and average separate

    A short event can limit the hardware even when its contribution to mission energy is small.
