Tea Blending: Trial Batches and Recipe Records

Create small weighed tea blends, keep component percentages explicit and compare repeatable trials before scaling a recipe.

Workflow

  1. Choose a Flavor Goal and Ingredients

Write the flavor you want and select identified food-use ingredients with their labels and brewing instructions. Begin with compatible finished teas. Record allergens or other ingredient restrictions before sharing samples.

  2. Write a Mass-based Trial Formula

Assign percentages that total 100 and choose a small trial mass. Multiply each percentage by total grams and divide by 100. For an illustrative 10 g trial at 70/30, weigh 7 g of tea A and 3 g of tea B.

  3. Blend and Brew a Labeled Trial

Mix the weighed ingredients in a clean, dry container and label the batch. Choose a documented brewing method compatible with the ingredients. Brew a measured sample and a base-tea control under recorded conditions.

  4. Adjust One Component at a Time

Compare aroma, taste, texture and finish after cooling. Write what is missing or excessive, then make a new trial with one planned proportion change. Rebalance the other components so the total remains 100 percent.

  5. Scale and Check the New Batch

Record the final percentages, ingredient lots, trial notes and brewing instructions. Multiply the percentages by the new batch mass, reweigh and mix, then taste a fresh sample. Keep storage and ingredient labels with the recipe.

  • Keep a Useful Record

Scaling the weights does not guarantee uniform mixing or identical flavor.

  • Start with the Actual Product

A pleasant fragrance does not make a botanical suitable for ingestion.

Safety Notes

  • Handle hot water on a stable surface and let tea cool before sipping.
  • Use identified food-use ingredients and retain their labels and restrictions when sharing a blend.
