Workflow

  1. Translate the brief into a test script

    Record the client’s pronunciation, performance, file-naming, channel and delivery requirements. Choose a passage containing quiet words, emphatic speech and difficult consonants. Agree which processing belongs in delivery and retain a clean recording version for revisions.

  2. Compare practical recording positions

    Record the same passage at candidate positions without changing the microphone or analysis settings. Listen for early reflections, plosives, low-frequency coloration and tolerance to normal movement. If measuring decay, retain the frequency band and fitted interval; a small booth’s low-frequency resonances are not summarized reliably by one Sabine number.

  3. Set gain from the performance

    Check normal and loud delivery through the complete recording path. Measure the recorded peak with an identified meter and choose sufficient margin for this performer. Capture noise-only material under the same gain and room conditions if you need a comparable SNR record.

  4. Audition processing at matched level

    Compare the clean passage with any proposed filtering, de-essing or compression. Use the static compressor curve to understand threshold, ratio and makeup, then audition real attack, release and breaths. Listen to quiet consonants and tails before deciding that a noise process improved intelligibility.

  5. Deliver a representative approval sample

    Export the requested test format and listen to the exported file itself. Confirm naming, starts and ends, channel layout and any client-specified loudness or peak limits using audio software. Get agreement on this sample before recording a large batch; record requested changes precisely.

  6. Preserve the approved configuration

    Save the accepted passage, raw take, position notes, device settings and processing version. Record pickup settings so later lines can match room tone and performance. Recheck the actual chain at the next session, including ventilation and background devices.
