How it works

Multiply compatible activity and factor

Each factor must use kilograms of the selected emissions basis per the entered activity unit. The tool does not look up factors or verify source text.

Row emissions = activity quantity × kg emissions per activity unit

Add the included rows

Decimal products and their sum use integer arithmetic before conversion to display numbers. The total covers only the entered activities. Missing activities are not treated as measured zero.

Included emissions = sum of compatible, non-overlapping row emissions

Retain scope and current results

An optional whole-person count divides the total only. Editing or restoring a draft hides the old result until calculation succeeds again. Reports contain the current draft, row results and assumptions.

Per-person average = included emissions ÷ people sharing the record

Updated: September 2026

Example Scenarios

Fictional factors of 0.4 kg CO₂e/kWh for 100 kWh and 0.1 kg CO₂e/passenger-km for 200 passenger-km produce 60 kg CO₂e. With two people, the optional average is 30 kg each.

Use a common bill period and household scope, document applicable factors and retain missing or excluded activities in the notes.

Save separate complete records using consistent journey coverage, units and allocation. A difference in the arithmetic does not establish causation or an offset credit.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Entering source tonnes per unit as kilograms per unit

Convert the factor to kg of the chosen basis before entry and document the source unit.

Counting household energy and a personal share again

Allocate shared activity once and explain the chosen scope.

Reusing a result after editing a factor

Calculate again; the panel removes the stale result and report action.

FAQ

You supply them from an applicable source and record the publication or URL, year, geography and boundary. The arithmetic example uses explicitly fictional factors and is not a regional estimate.

No. Choose one basis and supply compatible factors in kilograms of that basis. Changing the label does not convert gases or boundaries.

It covers only the quantities and factors you enter. Review omitted categories, overlapping activity, lifecycle stages and shared allocations before interpreting it.

Use the manual browser-save control or download a full JSON backup, including source and boundary notes. Restore replaces the page draft; calculate again for a current report. A report also retains its draft, while the backup is the restore format.

About Carbon Footprint Activity Record

Create a record for one reporting period and population. Add 1–50 non-overlapping activities with matching quantities, units and kg CO₂ or CO₂e factors. Sources and boundaries remain with the record. Calculation is explicit; drafts are saved manually on this browser or downloaded as complete JSON backups.
