How it works

Deck board stock count

Count stock boards for parallel rectangular decking courses on an already approved layout. The tool assumes each course uses its own stock pieces and does not reuse offcuts. Enter actual board face width, manufacturer-specified side gap, stock length and your selected allowance. It does not size joists, beams, fasteners or connections.

Courses = ceil((deck width in inches + gap) ÷ (board width + gap)); stock pieces per course = ceil(run length ÷ stock length); purchase count = ceil(base count × (1 + selected allowance)).
