BeginnerA wardrobe review and a chosen wear-record period

Clothing Use, Repair and Purchase Plan

Review clothing needs, plan repair and care, compare complete cost per wear and make a documented purchase or reuse decision based on actual use.

Workflow

  1. Review the clothing you actually use

List recurring clothing needs by climate, work, fit, comfort and care access. Mark useful items, repairable items and specific gaps. Keep a short wear record rather than assuming a universal capsule size or unworn percentage.

  2. Check repair and care before replacement

Inspect the item’s condition and read its care label. Obtain a repair or alteration quote where useful, including any effect on fit or function. Record care access and costs, then decide whether the existing item can meet the original need.

  3. Compare complete cost per stated wear

For each feasible option, total the relevant purchase or repair, alteration and care costs over the same comparison scope. Enter a positive whole wear count that is either observed or explicitly assumed. Test lower use as well as the expected case.

  4. Inspect the specific item and its evidence

Check fit, condition, seams, fasteners, care requirements and return terms. If an environmental claim matters to the decision, record its scope and supporting source. For secondhand clothing, plan appropriate care before use and verify any product-specific requirements relevant to the garment.

  5. Track use and choose a realistic next destination

Record actual wears, care and repairs during the chosen period. Compare them with the purchase assumption. For items no longer needed, check a specific resale, donation or textile collection program’s condition requirements and accepted materials. Keep unsuitable items out of an assumed donation route.

Reference Materials

Care instructions belong to the garmentStandard

FTC consumer guidance explains clothing labels and care instructions. Read the actual garment’s directions before deciding that a wash or drying change will work.

Check a specific environmental claimStandard

Record the claim’s scope and evidence rather than relying on an unqualified sustainable description. Product use and care still belong in the decision.

Cost per wear is conditional arithmeticFormula

Complete included cost ÷ positive wears gives the financial cost per wear. Prospective wear counts are assumptions; the result does not rate labor practices or lifecycle impact.

  • Use the repair quote

An actual alteration price is more useful than a generic repair allowance.

  • Keep care in the purchase decision

A garment that needs care you cannot routinely provide may not meet the intended need.
