How it works

Unrotated grid

Floor usable width divided by cut-ready piece width to get identical pieces per row, then ceiling whole quantity divided by that count to get complete rows.

rows = ceil(quantity / floor(usable width / cut width))

Entered extra length

Multiply row length by only the percentage supported by your exact repeat, test, defect, layout, or workroom record. Zero adds nothing; the Tool has no automatic 5% or 10%.

planned inches = rows × cut length × (1 + entered extra% / 100)

Supplier increment rounding

Convert planned inches to exact yards, then round upward only to the entered supplier cutting or sales increment.

Example Scenarios

Eight 20×18-inch cut-ready pieces fit two per row across 42 usable inches: four rows, 72 base inches, 2 exact yards, and no hidden reserve.

The same exact geometric length can round differently when a supplier sells one-eighth, one-quarter, half, or whole yards; enter the current policy rather than assuming quarter yards.

A garment with fronts, backs, sleeves, facings and directional pieces is not an identical-rectangle grid. Use the complete approved pattern layout instead.
