Use this result well

Inputs that matter
One retained record/revision/evaluation timestamp; one exact formulation revision, batch and alkali identity; accountable source owner/document/revision/locator/exact rows; 1 through 20 fat-or-oil rows containing a unique ingredient ID, exact identity or lot context, positive mass and unit, matching alkali-specific rate and unit, and row evidence locator; optional complete source-owned alkali reduction; optional exact dry-material or solution active mass fraction; result mass unit; owner/reviewer/review date/retention note; seven accepted refusal gates; and optional complete same-scope delivered-mass record
Output to expect
Per-row fat-or-oil mass and alkali-equivalent mass, total fat-or-oil mass, base and source-reduced alkali-equivalent mass, delivered mass only on the explicitly entered active-fraction basis, neutral non-alkali mass balance, an exact scope key, optional signed completed-versus-calculated delivered-mass difference, seven nondecisions and a source-owned-alkali-formulation-record-reconciliation/v1 record
How it works
Translate every entered mass to grams with exact NIST factors; normalize only the row's explicitly named g/g or mg/g rate without converting its NaOH/KOH identity; sum row equivalents without intermediate rounding; apply no reduction or delivery correction unless its complete accountable basis is retained; and compare only one complete completed record whose formulation, batch, alkali and source-revision scope key is exactly identical
  • Start from one retained current formulation source and exact row-level rates. Built-in SAP tables, averaged rates, remembered values, NaOH/KOH conversion, hidden zero/default reduction and partial source records are refused.
  • Equivalent-only output does not infer material purity, solution concentration, water, density, temperature, sequence, cure or reaction completion. Active-fraction modes require the exact identified material or solution record and label the remainder only as a non-alkali mass balance.
  • The result does not select a recipe or product; provide chemical handling or emergency instructions; claim pH, mildness, moisture, stability, quality, safety or performance; approve product classification, labeling, testing, tolerance, release or sale; merge neighboring Tools; or create Project, Goal or scenario ownership.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Reconcile one retained source-owned fat-or-oil and alkali formulation record, plus optional complete source-owned reduction, active-fraction delivery basis and exact-scope completed record, while refusing SAP selection, NaOH/KOH conversion, inferred water, product, process, safety, quality, regulatory and release decisions.

Formulation record custodian reproducing one controlled batch

Preserve exact row-level oil or fat identities, lot contexts, masses and alkali-specific rates instead of relying on averaged or remembered SAP values.

Bind one formulation revision, batch and alkali identity; retain the source owner, document, revision, locator and exact rows; enter each ingredient mass, explicit unit, matching NaOH- or KOH-specific rate unit and row locator; then inspect row and aggregate arithmetic.

Can reproduce the source-owned arithmetic across exact mass units without a hidden table, alkali conversion, default reduction, inferred water or recipe recommendation.

Quality reviewer reconciling a completed delivered-mass record

Compare one accountable completed mass with the calculated delivery-basis mass without turning the difference into reaction, tolerance, acceptance or release proof.

Select only a completely documented reduction and dry-material or solution active fraction when those records exist; calculate the exact scope key; enable a complete same-scope completed record; then inspect the signed completed-minus-calculated difference.

Gets a reproducible signed arithmetic difference only when formulation, batch, alkali and source revision match exactly, while all product and approval decisions remain outside the Tool.

Mobile maker screening missing or mismatched evidence

Stop a convenient calculator from converting incomplete, mixed-alkali or generic online inputs into a polished chemical quantity.

Exercise blank, neutral training, NaOH, KOH, g/g, mg/g, mixed mass units, explicit-zero reduction, equivalent-only, material, solution, mismatch, partial tuple, stale result, export, in-tab retention and Reset paths in the responsive flow.

Recovers at the owning field and retains only scoped arithmetic without mistaking simulated paths for user research, chemical handling advice, safety review or product approval.

How it works

Row-owned alkali-equivalent arithmetic

Normalize each entered oil or fat mass to grams, normalize only its explicitly named g/g or mg/g rate, and multiply the two. Every rate must name the same alkali as the record; the Tool never converts NaOH and KOH.

Base alkali equivalent = Σ(row mass g × matching source rate g/g)

Optional source-owned adjustments

Apply an alkali reduction only when its percentage and meaning are completely retained from the accountable formulation. Report a material or solution mass only when the exact identified record supplies its active mass fraction.

Delivered mass = base equivalent × (1 − documented reduction) ÷ documented active fraction

Exact-scope record comparison

A completed delivered-mass record is optional and all-or-none. Its formulation, batch, alkali identity, and source revision must match the generated scope key before a signed arithmetic difference is shown.

Difference = completed delivered mass − calculated delivered mass

Example Scenarios

Transcribe the exact formulation revision and each row's ingredient identity, lot context, mass, matching alkali-specific rate, unit, and source locator. The result remains arithmetic evidence, not a recipe recommendation.

First generate the exact scope key, then add a complete same-scope delivered-mass record. Inspect the signed difference without turning it into a tolerance, acceptance, reaction-completion, or release decision.

Use equivalent-only mode when no current material active-fraction record exists, or stop when a row lacks an alkali-specific rate. The Tool does not fill gaps with common online values.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Averaging oil rates or silently converting NaOH and KOH

Retain each ingredient row separately with its exact alkali-specific rate unit and evidence locator. A mismatched alkali identity fails closed.

Reading an arithmetic mass as a process, safety, quality, or release decision

Keep the exact scope key and accountable source with the result. Product formulation, chemical controls, testing, classification, acceptance, and release remain external decisions.

FAQ

ISO 3657 treats saponification value as a measured property of free and esterified acids in a particular fat or oil sample and notes interpretation limits. This Tool therefore requires the exact retained source value and basis instead of supplying a universal constant.

Selecting rates or formulation settings requires evidence for the exact materials, process, intended product, and accountable owner. The calculator only applies values already established in the retained record.

Yes, but only as separate exact identities. Every row's rate unit must match the selected alkali, and the Tool refuses rather than converts a NaOH rate into KOH or the reverse.

No. It is only the arithmetic difference between delivered mass and active alkali-equivalent mass on the entered active-fraction basis. It does not identify water, solvent, impurities, density, or a process quantity.

No. NIOSH treats NaOH and KOH as chemical hazards, while FDA product classification depends on composition, cleaning action, and intended claims. Use current SDS, supplier, workplace, testing, labeling, and regulatory evidence outside this arithmetic record.

About Soap Lye Calculator

Reconcile one accountable formulation record without built-in SAP values, silent NaOH/KOH conversion, inferred water, or product and safety claims. Every accepted row retains its oil or fat identity, mass, matching alkali-specific rate, unit, and evidence locator.
