How it works

Count the supplied text

The estimate uses the panel’s word count for the text in the editor. Word boundaries use Intl.Segmenter when available and the documented fallback otherwise.

Apply the fixed rate

Divide the counted words by the fixed assumption of 150 words per minute. This calculation excludes pauses and any part of the delivery that is absent from the script.

Estimated minutes = word count / 150

Review rounded output

The panel shows rounded seconds, minutes or hours as appropriate. Use the word count and rate when you need the unrounded arithmetic, and measure the actual activity before relying on a tight schedule.

Speaking time is counted words divided by 150. The tool uses 150 words per minute as a fixed planning assumption, not as a measured personal pace or a universal speaking rate.

This panel uses fixed rates: 238 words per minute for reading and 150 for speaking. For a personal estimate, divide the displayed word count by your measured words per minute. Time a representative passage to check the assumption.

Only the script’s counted words enter the estimate. Add time for pauses, audience interaction, demonstrations, interviews and non-speech audio, then confirm the complete duration in rehearsal.

The panel uses the browser’s Intl.Segmenter where available, with a whitespace/CJK-character fallback. Counts can differ by language and browser. Review the displayed word count, especially for mixed-language text, code or unusual punctuation.
