Thinset Calculator

Compare thinset package quantities using product-specific coverage ranges, explicit allowance, usable inventory and optional purchase cost.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Compare a documented thinset-package coverage interval and inventory without arbitrary trowel, tile or substrate multipliers.

First-time purchaser

Use the right package assumptions.

Record exact product/package/source and lower/upper coverage before calculating.

Does not mistake the illustrative example for a trowel or compatibility recommendation.

Contractor checking coverage

See procurement uncertainty and existing stock.

Compare a 60–100 coverage interval, zero allowance and usable packages.

Sees both rounded endpoints and inventory-adjusted purchase counts.

Metric reviewer

Share an auditable local scenario.

Convert area/coverage together and export raw inputs and scoped results.

Physical quantity remains equivalent and exclusions remain visible in the report.

Authoritative checks for this tool

Outputs and checklists are planning aids. Review the linked current authorities and the records, terms, instructions, and requirements that apply to your exact situation before a consequential decision.

How it works

Product coverage, not a universal table

Use both coverage endpoints to show quantity uncertainty. Confirm whether back-troweling, substrate conditions and other planned uses are already included.

Whole packages = ceil(adjusted area ÷ coverage)

Explicit allowance and inventory

The allowance is your assumption, not a recommendation. Subtract usable whole packages only after rounding; no automatic extra bag is added.

Adjusted area = measured area × (1 + allowance/100)

Optional package cost

Use one currency. This is a material purchase scenario, not a total installed quote.

Purchase cost = additional packages × unit price

Example Scenarios

At 80–100 ft² per package and a user-entered 10% allowance, 132 ft² requires 2 packages. With one compatible package on hand, purchase 1.

For 200 ft², zero additional allowance and 60–100 ft² per package, the arithmetic is 2–4 whole packages before inventory. Obtain the applicable coverage from the exact product source.

FAQ

Not by itself. Check the complete assembly, actual tile underside, substrate, product instructions and representative bond-coverage checks with the responsible installer.

No. Product instructions distinguish working time in the container, time after spreading, and cure or service requirements. This quantity tool does not supply universal times.

Yes, but coverage, price and on-hand packages must all refer to that exact size. Do not mix coverage from one package with the price or inventory of another.

About Thinset Calculator

Use a documented coverage range for the exact mortar, package, trowel and installation conditions. This tool does not choose a trowel or apply arbitrary tile/substrate multipliers.
