How it works

Neutral logarithmic wind profile

Extrapolate a measured wind speed using a neutral logarithmic profile with explicit reference height, target height, displacement and roughness. Reject heights outside the mathematical profile domain.

v₂/v₁ = ln((h₂−displacement)/z₀) / ln((h₁−displacement)/z₀).

Shear from paired heights

Calculate a power-law exponent from positive wind speeds measured at two different heights on a comparable time, direction and instrument basis. Optionally extrapolate that same profile to a target height.

α = ln(v₂/v₁)/ln(h₂/h₁); vtarget = v₁(htarget/h₁)^α.
