How it works

Derive the height

With the ratio locked, new height equals original height times new width divided by original width, rounded to the nearest whole pixel. Derived dimensions must be from 1 to 1,000,000 pixels.

Use independent dimensions

Unlock the ratio to supply both dimensions. Width and height scales are reported separately; unequal scaling can stretch the image.

Count pixels

Pixel area equals width times height. Area percentage compares the two pixel counts. Compressed file bytes depend on format, content and encoder settings, so no file-size prediction is made.

A 1920 × 1080 image becomes 960 × 540 with its ratio locked: 50% of each dimension and 25% of the pixel area.
