How it works

Choose the spacing interpretation

The span excludes independently entered first and far CENTERLINE offsets. Fixed-from-start instead keeps the entered pitch, uses floor(span/pitch)+1 positions, and reports the remaining far gap. Neither interpretation chooses a safe spacing.

Maximum-even: intervals = ceil(centerline span / maximum pitch); positions = intervals + 1

Count complete pieces by direction

Complete cut lengths come from a reviewed schedule. Grid boundaries do not automatically specify physical bar ends, clear cover, bends, anchorage or splices. Different bar products or layers require separate records.

X-running pieces = Y positions × layers; Y-running pieces = X positions × layers

Inspect actual stock packing

A bounded first-fit-decreasing method places whole pieces, reserving cut loss even for the final piece. It is feasible arithmetic, not a proven minimum or field cutting approval. The total-length quotient is only a lower bound. Independently reviewed stock counts must not violate that bound.

Usable stock = stock length − combined trim; consumed per piece = complete cut + entered cut loss

Example Scenarios

The illustration has 16 X positions and 10 Y positions, making 26 complete pieces. Its roughly 20-stock total-length lower bound is not executable: the entered long cuts each need a separate 20 ft stock, so the straight-cut suggestion uses 26.

Switch the same illustration to fixed-from-start: it has 15 X positions and 9 Y positions, with remaining far gaps. The tool does not silently add another end bar.

For an illustrative 26-stock requirement, 2 usable matching stocks and 5 stocks per sale pack mean buying 5 packs containing 25 stocks. This is not a recommendation for any diameter or product.

Ordering the total-length lower bound as if every offcut were reusable

Check every complete cut against actual usable stock and reconcile the full packing or reviewed schedule.

Treating centerline offsets or an example pitch as structural specifications
