Workflow

  1. Meter and Record an Exposure Baseline

    30-60 minutes

    Measure the real lighting state, choose an aperture/time/ISO baseline, and use the calculators to audit continuous-light setting relationships or an optional condition-specific direct-flash guide-number hypothesis rather than declare a correct exposure.

  2. Record a Hyperfocal Hypothesis(Optional)

    20-45 minutes plus tests

    When distant coverage matters, calculate a hyperfocal hypothesis at the entered criterion and verify foreground/distant detail at the intended output scale.

  3. Audit One Exact Print Handoff(Optional)

    45-90 minutes plus proof cycle

    Use the final exported pixel dimensions, the provider’s required image PPI, and one exact image rectangle to audit native size, fill crop, retained pixels, and effective target PPI.

Criterion-Based Focus GeometryFormula

H = f²/(Nc)+f; near = Hs/(H+s−f); far = Hs/(H−s+f) below the hyperfocal condition. The entered criterion and real lens/output tests control interpretation.

  • Change One Documented Variable

    When testing aperture, shutter time, ISO, focus mark, focal length, lighting, or processing, hold the other relevant conditions and label each file so the comparison remains interpretable.

  • Evaluate at the Intended Output

    A fit-to-screen preview can hide focus, motion, sharpening, crop, color, and print issues. Review the critical area at the scale and conditions owned by the acceptance brief.

  • Keep Calculator and Evidence Roles Separate

    Angle, depth, exposure, and sampling arithmetic document hypotheses; real framing, lens tests, meters, capture review, provider requirements, and proofs decide acceptance.

  • Version the Handoff

    Record selected file ID, edit/export version, whole pixel dimensions, profile/color space, crop, provider specification, and proof status so the deliverable can be reproduced.

Safety Notes

  • Do not aim an optical viewfinder, lens, telescope, or camera at the sun unless a competent solar-observation method and front-mounted equipment rated for the exact system are in place; ordinary photographic filters are not eye protection.
  • Complete location-specific access, weather, traffic, water, height, electrical/lighting, crowd, tripod/stand, release, privacy, and equipment-securing controls before the session; stop when conditions leave the documented plan.
