Wind Battery Storage: Capacity, Dispatch and Controls

Define the battery service and SOC basis, calculate lull deficits, check diversion limits and retain chronological shortages, recovery and operating evidence.

Workflow

  1. Establish available capacity and permitted battery operation

    Collect the battery/BMS manual, approved arrangement and actual capacity under temperature, age and discharge conditions. Record charging, discharging, voltage and SOC limits with separate efficiency paths. Distinguish available capacity from nominal capacity and verify that the rest of the system accepts the battery envelope.

  2. Calculate the explicit lull energy requirement

    Build a documented sequence of loads and expected wind/PV during the lull. Sum only positive bus deficits and account for discharge losses, the actual starting-to-minimum SOC window and available-capacity fraction. Keep short peak power and battery arrangement checks separate from this energy estimate.

  3. Check diversion across the real regulation range

    Obtain maximum current from every source that the diversion controller must handle and its exact required allowance. Check load resistance at actual regulation voltages, per-element installed heat/voltage limits and the controller maximum current. Retain any infeasible range and resolve it through a documented equipment revision.

  4. Simulate full-battery, deficit and recovery sequences

    Run the actual interval order with charging and discharging limits, conversion losses and the initial SOC. Inspect final stored energy, unmet load, curtailed PV and required/handled/unhandled wind diversion. Compare capacity and control alternatives using the same sequence and include realistic resource shortages.

  5. Retain commissioning and later battery evidence

    Commission the accepted battery/control arrangement through the exact qualified procedure and preserve settings, test results and unresolved items. Track source, load, SOC, temperature and charge-throughput records over time. Revise available-capacity and service assumptions from evidence, saving comparable cases and exportable plans.
