Pages per signature must be divisible by 4 (for folio folding). Common sizes: 4, 8, 12, 16, 32 pages per signature.
Signatures = Total pages ÷ Pages per signaturePage Divisibility Check
Remainder must be zero. Adjust total pages (add blanks) or change signature size to achieve even division.

Signature fold should be parallel to paper grain to prevent cracking. Grain short signatures fold more cleanly.

Example Scenarios
192 ÷ 16 = 12 signatures exactly. Each signature is one folded sheet of 4 leaves (8 pages) or two sheets depending on imposition.
150 pages doesn't divide evenly by 16. Use 10-page signatures (15 sigs) or add 2 blank pages to reach 152 (19 × 8-page signatures).
One signature of 4–40 pages sewn through center fold — simplest binding for zines and chapbooks.
