Furniture Fit Calculator

Check if furniture fits through doorways, hallways, and stairs. Enter dimensions to get a fit/fail verdict and clearance analysis.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Determine whether a piece of furniture can pass through each opening and turn on a move path, including removable parts and usable clearance.

Home mover with a sofa

Get a fast, understandable doorway verdict before move day.

Enter the sofa and doorway dimensions, apply a clearance allowance, and review the orientation guidance.

Knows whether the move is likely, tight, or likely to fail and what to measure again.

Relocation professional

Evaluate the complete route rather than only the front door.

Build a path of doors, hallways, stairs, elevators, and turns and inspect every node status.

Identifies the exact bottleneck and can prepare an alternate route or disassembly plan.

Metric user

Measure in centimetres without changing the physical verdict.

Switch units, include removable feet or cushions, and use the move-day checklist.

Gets the same physical conclusion in either unit system and retains a practical verification checklist.

How it works

Multi-Orientation Clearance Check

The quick check compares three axis-aligned dimension pairings and six tilted variants against the usable opening after hardware offset and safety margin. It reports the orientation with the greatest minimum clearance.

Minimum clearance = min(usable width − oriented width, opening height − oriented height)

Diagonal Depth Analysis

For tight fits, the calculator considers tilting the furniture diagonally. The diagonal depth equals √(a² + b²) where a and b are the two smaller dimensions, which can help clear door frames.

Path Node Evaluation

In Full Path mode, each checkpoint (front door, hallway, corner, stairs, elevator, room door) is evaluated independently. The overall verdict is determined by the tightest point.

Example Scenarios

An 84×36×40 inch sofa needs to pass through a 32×80 inch doorway.

Furniture: 84×36×40 inDoorway: 32×80 in

Tight Fit or Likely Fails — diagonal tilt may be needed

A 36×70×34 inch refrigerator moving through a 38-inch wide hallway.

Furniture: 36×70×34 inHallway Width: 38 in

Likely Fits with 2 inch clearance

A 80×14×76 inch bed frame navigating a staircase with 36-inch landing.

Furniture: 80×14×76 inStair Landing: 36 in

Inconclusive — landing dimensions need verification

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Only measuring the front door and forgetting hallways, corners, or the room door

Measure every passage point along the entire delivery path from entrance to final room

Using the furniture's assembled dimensions when it arrives in packaging

Check both packaging dimensions and assembled dimensions — packaging is often larger

Forgetting door handles, trim, and handrails that reduce clearance

Measure the actual clear opening, not the door frame — subtract hardware protrusions

FAQ

Our calculator provides estimates based on your measurements. Real-world factors like wall texture, floor transitions, and exact tilt angles can affect actual results. We recommend a 1-2 inch safety margin and always suggest professional assessment for borderline cases.

Yes! In Full Path mode you can add doorways, hallways, corners, staircases, elevators, and room doors as checkpoints. Each is analyzed independently to find the tightest point.

You can check the 'removable legs' or 'removable arms' options to see how removing parts changes the fit verdict. Always check the largest individual piece.

Quick Check evaluates one opening, Full Path evaluates doors, hallways, corners, stairs, elevators, and room doors, and Measurement Checklist tracks the dimensions still needed. A geometric fit is still an estimate: packaging, grip space, wall clearance, floor transitions, and real turning technique can change the move.
