Laminate Flooring Calculator

Review laminate edge rows, starter lengths and joint spacing, then reconcile whole cartons, matching inventory and separately approved underlay.

Use this result well

Inputs that matter
Actual field and fixed plank dimensions, sourced row/end/stagger thresholds, starter cycle, verified reuse, carton size and optional approved underlay
Output to expect
Every row’s edge width, endpoint lengths and nearest adjacent joints; flagged rows, conservative source planks and complete cartons
How it works
Build the entered repeating straight-row layout, flag numeric or H-joint concerns, subtract reviewed offcut positions and stock, then round the real package
  • Blue/unflagged rows are not approved installation. Repeating starters, lock edges, obstacles and product-specific rules still require review.
  • Underlay is a separate measured scope; attached pad is not permission for another pad. Geometry changes invalidate nonzero cut credits and active accessory area.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Review actual fixed-plank rows and sourced edge/end/stagger thresholds, then reconcile conservative source planks, real cartons and independently approved underlay.

DIY planner reviewing narrow edge rows

See actual row widths and endpoint lengths.

Enter the rectangular field and fixed planks, compare balanced/full-first edges and inspect flagged rows.

Understands exactly which rows need product/layout review, without treating zero flags as approval.

Installer reconciling offcut positions

Avoid invented reuse and stale credits.

Review the repeating starter sequence, enter compatible cut-position credits, change direction and re-review cleared credits.

Position counts, new source planks and whole stock remain distinct.

Coordinator ordering flooring and underlay

Track independent material quantities and unit sources.

Enter actual carton size and quote, choose a sourced underlay scope, download rows and save the independent Project summary.

Underlay is neither silently assumed compatible nor inflated by plank waste; missing costs remain unestimated.

How it works

Net field and edge rows

Choose run direction and balanced edge rows or a full first row. Clearance and minimum widths come from the actual product and reviewed site, not a universal preset.

Net dimensions = measured dimensions − 2 × entered perimeter clearance

Actual starter-cycle rows

The sequence repeats; this is not a random-pattern generator. Check first/last pieces, adjacent interior-joint distances and seams aligned two rows apart. All active rows are retained in JSON.

Each row = entered starter + full-length segments + final remainder

Planks, cartons and separate underlay

Each uncredited installed position consumes one source plank in this conservative model. Approved underlay uses its own measured area, usable roll coverage, whole-roll stock and optional quote.

Cartons = ceil(max(0, ceil((positions − verified offcut positions) × (1 + allowance)) + reserve − stock) ÷ actual planks per carton)

Example Scenarios

An 18 × 14 ft room, 0.25-inch clearance, 7.5 × 48-inch planks and 48/32/16-inch starters produce 23 rows, 5-inch balanced edges and 122 installed positions. These example settings are not product recommendations.

For that 122-position illustration, 20 verified cut-position credits, 5 reserve planks and 10 whole planks on hand give 97 planks still needed at zero extra allowance. Eight-plank cartons round this to 13 cartons and 104 purchased planks.

A separately measured 252 ft² scope with zero extra allowance, 100 ft² usable roll coverage and one full roll on hand needs two new rolls. This does not determine vapor-control requirements or approve a second pad.

FAQ

No. Only the entered numeric checks and two-row seam alignment are assessed. Product rules, random appearance, lock edges, obstacles, site conditions and cutting yields still need review.

Use the exact current product instructions. The numeric check accepts equality; if the source requires strictly more than a limit, enter an appropriate stricter planning threshold.

No. A credit must correspond to a reviewed, compatible cut position. Geometry, source, rules or direction changes clear nonzero credits. Whole-plank inventory is separate.

No compatibility is inferred. Select separately approved rolls, document why no separate underlay is required, or leave accessories unestimated. Vapor control is a separate system question.

No. It models one unobstructed rectangular field of uniform fixed planks. Use a product-specific takeoff for other patterns, connected fields, irregular rooms or stairs.

About Laminate Flooring Calculator

Model one measured rectangular field using actual fixed plank dimensions and a user-entered starter cycle. Inspect each row’s rip width, endpoints and nearest adjacent end joints against your sourced thresholds. Reconcile conservative source-plank demand and actual cartons without assuming automatic offcut reuse.
