Workflow

  1. Define the audience and public information

Choose the roles or professional conversations the profile should support. Review what information you want visible to members and outside LinkedIn. Record the relevant settings to check before adding new contact details or work samples.

  2. Draft a truthful headline and experience summary

Use a working resume version to organize the experience, skills and projects you can demonstrate. Draft a headline and summary that explain your work clearly. Keep confidential metrics and private contact details out of material intended for public display.

  3. Select relevant work samples and verify details

Check dates, organization names, links and credential status. Select work samples you have permission to share and explain your own contribution. Ask a trusted reviewer whether the public draft is clear and consistent with the roles you seek.

  4. Apply content and review career-interest privacy

Update the profile yourself using LinkedIn’s current controls. Inspect public visibility, network-update sharing and the chosen career-interest audience. LinkedIn says it takes steps to limit exposure to current-employer recruiters but cannot guarantee complete privacy. Choose the setting with that limitation in mind.

  5. Maintain relevant activity and a useful next action

Share or discuss work you can support, respond to appropriate contacts and update the profile when experience changes. Record what you learned from conversations and any genuine job lead in the application tracker. Review outcomes without attributing them to an invented ranking formula.

Reference Materials

Understand profile visibilityStandard

LinkedIn describes how profile visibility and related settings affect what people can see. Review the current controls in your account.

Career-interest privacy has limitsStandard

LinkedIn cannot guarantee that career interests remain hidden from every recruiter connected with a current or affiliated employer.

Keep the content evidence-basedStandard

Use clear work experience and relevant outcomes as the basis for the public profile draft.

  • Keep the decision record

Retain the sources, date, open questions and next action with this plan. Update the record when the employer, schedule or assumptions change.

  • Save work you want to revisit

Resume and application workspaces save only when you choose Save in this browser. Download their JSON backups for recovery. The notepad saves one text document locally; download separate notes before replacing it.

Safety Notes

  • Review privacy settings before exposing career interests or contact details.
  • Share only work samples and employer information you have permission to disclose.
