Check the applicable airspace information and restrictions using current authoritative sources. Keep unresolved access or airspace questions visible before considering the terrain or the forecast.
Review the intended launch, primary landing and alternatives as one activity plan. Identify surface changes, obstructions, traffic, access, emergency approach and retrieve arrangements. Record measured dimensions and relevant slope changes. Average geometry alone cannot assess a launch or landing area.
Establish where, when and at what height the observations were made. Retain the direction sector and gust variability, and compare them with local terrain effects described in the briefing. A turbine hub-height profile is not a model of ridge rotor or valley airflow.
Use the exact equipment performance and a common terrain datum for a pre-activity planning case. Distinguish held-heading drift from a corrected ground track. Include the route’s intervening terrain and required-height profile when comparing potential paths with qualified local guidance.
