Hourly to Salary Calculator

Convert hourly and annual pay in both directions, model overtime, and estimate 2025 or 2026 US take-home pay with explicit tax and deduction assumptions.

Use this result well

Inputs that matter
Hourly or annual pay, work weeks/hours, optional overtime and multiplier; for take-home, 2025/2026 tax year, filing status, state/local effective gross-pay rate, annual traditional 401(k), and monthly after-tax health premium
Output to expect
Gross pay-frequency equivalents, overtime split, equivalent hourly pay, and a simplified federal/FICA/state-local/deduction take-home estimate
How it works
Exact pay arithmetic plus selected-year federal brackets, standard deduction, Social Security/Medicare parameters, user-supplied state/local effective rate on gross, and explicit deduction assumptions
  • The model rejects deductions above the selected-year 401(k) limit, gross pay, or a combination that would make take-home negative.
  • This is not payroll withholding or a tax return; verify overtime eligibility, benefits, pre-tax treatment, credits, local rules, and paycheck timing.

Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Convert hourly and annual gross pay in both directions, model explicit overtime, and optionally inspect a transparent selected-year US take-home scenario.

Hourly worker

Annualize regular and overtime pay without hidden default substitution.

Enter rate, weekly hours, 1–53 working weeks, overtime hours, and multiplier; compare regular and total annual pay.

Can reproduce the $52,000 regular plus $9,750 overtime components in the example.

Salaried job comparer

Convert annual pay to an equivalent hourly rate using visible work assumptions.

Switch to salary mode and set annual salary, weekly hours, and working weeks.

Does not unknowingly inherit a hidden part-year assumption and can compare pay frequencies.

Take-home scenario planner

Use current or prior-year federal parameters without treating the result as payroll withholding.

Select 2025/2026, filing status, state/local effective gross-pay rate, 401(k), and after-tax health premium.

Sees deduction limits and exclusions, and invalid/over-limit deductions do not produce a plausible net-pay result.

How it works

Annual Salary from Hourly Wage

Multiply the hourly rate by hours worked per week, then by weeks per year. Standard full-time assumes 40 hours/week and 52 weeks.

Annual Salary = Hourly Rate × Hours per Week × 52

Monthly Equivalent

Divide annual salary by 12 for monthly gross pay. Note this differs from bi-weekly pay (26 paychecks/year).

Monthly Salary = Annual Salary ÷ 12

Simplified Take-Home Estimate

The optional estimate uses the selected year's federal brackets and standard deduction, employee Social Security and Medicare parameters, a user-entered state/local effective rate on gross pay, annual traditional 401(k), and an after-tax health-premium assumption.

Take-home = Gross − Federal − FICA − State/Local − 401(k) − Health Premium

Example Scenarios

Converting an hourly warehouse job at $28/hour to annual salary for mortgage pre-approval.

Hourly Rate: $28Hours/Week: 40

Annual: $58,240, monthly: ~$4,853

A freelance designer working 25 billable hours weekly estimates annual income.

Hourly Rate: $45Hours/Week: 25

Annual: $58,500 (before self-employment taxes)

A worker compares regular annual pay with five weekly overtime hours at a selected 1.5× multiplier before estimating deductions.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Not accounting for unpaid time off

Using 52 weeks assumes no vacation or holidays. For hourly workers with 2 weeks unpaid leave, use 50 weeks: $28 × 40 × 50 = $56,000, not $58,240.

Comparing hourly to salaried without benefits

Salaried roles often include health insurance, PTO, and 401(k) match worth 20–30% of base pay. A $55K salary may exceed $28/hour in total compensation.
