Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Convert one entered distance and elapsed time into transparent average pace and speed without predicting another-distance performance, calories, or training outcomes.

Runner reviewing an observation

Reproduce average pace from a measured route and elapsed time.

Enter distance plus hours, minutes, and seconds, then review pace, speed, and the entered source values.

Can reconcile every output and label the observation separately from a future target.

Coach checking authored arithmetic

Verify a pace scenario without a hidden race-equivalency model.

Enter the exact scenario and save outputs into the Marathon Project.

Receives constant-pace arithmetic only and keeps workout/performance decisions outside the tool.

Screen-reader or mobile user

Complete the calculation with unambiguous labels and compact results.

Navigate the four named inputs, trigger validation, and read the live result and scope.

No overflow, unnamed control, inaccessible error, or calorie/prediction claim blocks the task.

Authoritative checks for this tool

Outputs and checklists are planning aids. Review the linked current authorities and the records, terms, instructions, and requirements that apply to your exact situation before a consequential decision.

How it works

Running Pace

Average pace is elapsed time per unit distance. It describes only the observation or hypothetical scenario entered.

Pace per km = total elapsed seconds ÷ entered kilometers

Speed Conversion

Average speed is distance divided by elapsed time. The tool also converts kilometers and miles without changing the underlying observation.

Speed (km/h) = entered kilometers ÷ elapsed hours

Constant-Pace Boundary

Terrain, weather, surface, elevation, fatigue, health, and distance-specific performance are not modeled. The tool does not predict a race result, calories, or training response.

Same-pace arithmetic is not a performance prediction

Example Scenarios

Calculate the average pace and speed for one recorded distance/time observation.

Distance: 5 kmTime: 25:30

Pace: 5:06 min/km, speed: 11.8 km/h

Calculate the constant average pace implied by the entered distance and time; do not interpret it as a predicted or appropriate marathon target.

Distance: 42.195 kmEntered Time: 4:00:00

Constant average: 5:41 per km (about 9:09 per mile); not a performance prediction

Enter 0.4 km and a measured elapsed time to record average pace and speed for that observation; save route, conditions, and measurement method separately.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Calling a same-pace equivalent a race prediction

The result uses only distance ÷ time. It does not model endurance, terrain, conditions, health, pacing variation, or fatigue at another distance.

Confusing min/km with min/mile

5:00 min/km equals 8:03 min/mile, not 5:00 min/mile. A 5:00 min/mile pace is 3:06 min/km — nearly twice as fast. Always confirm units.

FAQ

The distance/time arithmetic and unit conversions are reproducible for the values entered. Accuracy still depends on the measured distance and elapsed time, and the result does not predict another route, condition, or distance.

Yes, our Pace Calculator is completely free with no registration required. There are no usage limits, hidden fees, or account setup — just open the tool and calculate.

Yes, the Pace Calculator is fully responsive and works on all devices including phones, tablets, and desktops. All calculations run in your browser for fast, private results.

No. It calculates average pace and speed only. It does not provide exercise clearance, diagnose symptoms, estimate calories, predict performance, or prescribe a training plan.

Enter distance in kilometers and time in hours, minutes, and seconds. Results show average pace per kilometer and mile and average speed in km/h and mph.
