Workflow

  1. Build a room and utility baseline

    Review and record

    Record room, time, outdoor conditions, thermostat settings, temperature/humidity observations and the specific comfort complaint. Gather utility billing periods, charges, rates and any available usage records. Note occupancy and equipment changes so an auditor can separate competing explanations.

  2. Agree a whole-home assessment scope

    Review and record

    Ask a qualified assessor how they will inspect the envelope, moisture, ventilation, equipment, ducts and relevant combustion safety. Request the methods, conditions and documents behind any load or leakage estimate. Identify urgent source or safety corrections before choosing efficiency measures.

  3. Keep ventilation, pressure tests and room airflow distinct

    Review and record

    Collect actual operating airflow and building volume if reviewing air changes, and retain outdoor-air versus recirculated-supply labels. Keep blower-door pressure and flow as a separate record. For ducts, record leakage test pressure/type and any room design/measured airflows without treating these quantities as interchangeable.

  4. Investigate moisture before sizing removal equipment

    Review and record

    Ask the assessor to distinguish leaks, wet materials, ventilation, internal sources and HVAC latent performance. Record temperature with humidity observations. If a moisture mass balance is available, use its dry-air flow and humidity ratios, then compare removal equipment at matching temperature/humidity and expected runtime.

ENERGY STAR describes dehumidifier water-removal capacity and the importance of operating temperature. Compare documented capacity at applicable conditions and keep moisture-source correction in the plan.

  • Ask what would confirm the diagnosis

    A useful recommendation names both the observed issue and the evidence that would show it has been corrected.

  • Preserve the comparison basis

    Keep dates, operating settings, test pressure, weather and occupancy beside each measurement rather than relying on a result alone.
