How it works

Minimum Hoop Diameter

Hoop must span the design diagonal plus margin for gripping fabric outside the stitched area. Design must fit entirely within the hoop interior.

Hoop ≥ √(Width² + Height²) + 2 inches

Standard Hoop Sizes

Round up to the next standard size. A 7-inch diagonal design needs an 8-inch hoop minimum.

Common: 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 inches diameter

Q-Snap Frame Alternative

Rectangular Q-Snap frames suit large projects. Select frame where shortest side exceeds design plus 3-inch margin.

Q-Snap side ≥ Design dimension + 3 inches

Example Scenarios

Diagonal is 17.2 inches — requires 12-inch hoop won't fit; use Q-Snap 11×17 or scroll frame for full design access.

6-inch hoop provides adequate margin. 4-inch hoop is too tight for comfortable stitching at edges.

Hooped section must contain one complete motif plus margin — reposition hoop between motifs rather than stretching across unstitched areas.

FAQ

Hoop must contain entire active stitching area plus 1–2 inches margin on all sides. Round up to next standard size. Never stitch with design edges under hoop rim.

Round hoops suit small projects under 8 inches. Q-Snap frames handle medium rectangular designs. Scroll frames for large/full-coverage pieces exceeding 12 inches.

Yes, but excess fabric slack outside the design area can catch on things. Moderately oversized hoops (1–2 inches extra diameter) work fine.

Most hoop creases wash out after finishing. Linen may retain marks longer — use Q-Snap or bind hoop inner ring with twill tape to reduce marks.

Floor stands hold any compatible hoop or frame hands-free. Match stand clamp to hoop size range (typically 5–14 inch capacity for standard stands).
