Choose your path

Built around the job you need to finish

Add or extract an entered sales-tax rate with cent-rounded arithmetic while leaving rate lookup, sourcing, and taxability to current official authority.

Checkout estimator

Add a verified combined rate to a pre-tax price.

Select Add, enter the amount and current authority rate, then inspect tax and total.

Can reproduce the cent-rounded total without assuming the tool looked up the rate.

Receipt reconciler

Extract the pre-tax and tax portions from an inclusive total.

Select Extract, enter the paid total and rate, and confirm the three amounts reconcile to cents.

Gets a real reverse calculation rather than a forward-only page claim.

Seller or filer

Avoid using generic arithmetic as a taxability or filing decision.

Verify jurisdiction, product, sourcing, date, exemption, district, and rounding rules with the tax authority.

Does not charge or file tax solely from a typed rate and calculator output.

How it works

Forward Sales Tax Calculation

In Add mode, multiply the entered pre-tax amount by the entered rate, round tax to cents, and add it to the cent-rounded amount.

Sales Tax = Net Price × Sales Tax Rate; Total Price = Net Price + Sales Tax

Reverse Sales Tax (Extraction)

In Extract mode, divide the entered tax-inclusive total by one plus the entered rate, round the pre-tax amount to cents, then reconcile tax as total minus pre-tax amount.

Pre-Tax Price = Gross Price ÷ (1 + Sales Tax Rate)

Authority Boundary

The user supplies a current combined rate after checking the relevant tax authority. The calculator does not assume that state, county, city, and district components are always simply additive or applicable.

Entered Rate = Current Authority-Sourced Rate for the Transaction

FAQ

No. Obtain the current rate from the relevant state or local tax authority for the transaction's location, sourcing rule, product, and date.

Reverse division can create fractions of a cent. This model rounds the pre-tax amount to cents and defines tax as the tax-inclusive total minus that rounded amount. Official or point-of-sale rounding rules can differ.

No. Product and service taxability, exemptions, holidays, use tax, marketplace rules, and special fees are jurisdiction-specific and require current official guidance.

About Sales Tax Calculator

Choose whether the entered amount is pre-tax or already tax-inclusive. The tool performs only the selected arithmetic and rounds currency to cents. It does not look up a rate or determine jurisdiction, sourcing, product taxability, exemptions, holidays, or filing treatment.
