Workflow

  1. Define the zones and installation constraints

    Review and record

    Describe occupied rooms, schedules, comfort problems and any spaces served by another system. Photograph proposed indoor and outdoor locations and discuss airflow reach, access for cleaning, noise, mounting, drainage, snow exposure and service clearance with installers. Record the exact scope each quote includes.

  2. Compare zone loads and simultaneous outdoor capacity

    Review and record

    Obtain room or zone heating and total/sensible cooling loads for the actual design conditions. Request the manufacturer’s allocated indoor capacities for the proposed combination and the outdoor unit’s simultaneous performance. Check each zone and the outdoor unit separately, including latent cooling and minimum output behavior.

  3. Document routes and manufacturer requirements

    Review and record

    Have the installer record line sizes, actual lengths, elevation limits, condensate routing, control wiring and the required electrical supply. Collect the exact equipment manual and its charge instructions. If checking voltage drop, use the circuit’s actual current and conductor data; minimum circuit ampacity and maximum protection remain separate requirements.

  4. Compare installation and service costs

    Review and record

    Normalize proposals to the same zones, equipment combination and completion requirements. Record equipment, mounting, electrical work, drainage, permits, removal and warranty/service terms. Use a common time horizon to compare explicitly estimated energy, service, replacement events and residual values.

  5. Review the qualified installer’s completion checks

    Review and record

    Arrange installation and refrigerant work with the appropriately qualified team. Request the model-specific completion record for mounting, drainage, electrical supply, line preparation, leak testing, evacuation, charge and controls. Ask the installer to explain any departure from the manufacturer’s instructions and record unresolved corrections.

  6. Hand over controls and plan a follow-up

    Review and record

    Confirm the model/serial list, warranty registration, normal operating instructions, filter access and drainage maintenance. Try the agreed control modes with the installer and review comfort across zones. Set inspection dates from the actual instructions and schedule a review after representative heating or cooling conditions.

  • Keep each condition labeled

    A heating capacity at one outdoor temperature cannot be silently substituted for the design temperature.

  • Compare the service plan too

    Check who can service the proposed equipment locally and what labor, travel and parts the warranty actually covers.
