Workflow

  1. Document the existing service and proposed change

    Review and record

    Record the service/panel labels, circuit directory, known issues and the loads to add or remove. Ask the utility and local authority about service capacity, permits, metering and inspection requirements. Have a qualified professional inspect the actual equipment condition and installation constraints rather than deciding from breaker count or house size alone.

  2. Complete and reconcile the applicable load calculation

    Review and record

    Have the designer select the complete method appropriate to this dwelling and work scope. Keep category worksheets for general loads, appliances, cooking, dryers, motors, heating/cooling and EV charging. Reconcile the approved demand values and actual split-phase leg allocation, including adders only once, against the proposed service or feeder limit.

  3. Coordinate service or feeder conductors and protection

    Review and record

    Have the qualified designer specify conductors, protection, grounding/bonding and terminations for the actual installation. Screen supported chart candidates where the ordinary method applies, or compare independently documented feeder candidates. Recalculate voltage drop for the chosen conductor and operating path, with separate neutral or unbalanced cases where needed.

  4. Coordinate the written scope, outage and inspection

    Review and record

    Compare itemized proposals including utility work, permit fees, equipment, grounding/bonding corrections, feeders, labeling, wall repairs and inspection. Confirm the responsible installer and utility outage/reconnection process. Arrange essential-load needs during the outage and retain design changes and approval records.

  5. Accept the installation with a complete handover

    Review and record

    Have the installer document the required electrical tests, protection tests, final circuit directory, equipment settings and inspection results. Resolve failed tests and compare the as-built circuit schedule with the approved plan. Export the updated demand and space cases with the one-line diagram, manuals and contact information for later additions.
